Principal Solution Architect — Marketing Work Management on ServiceNow
Mission
Design and own the architecture for a marketing work management product built natively on the ServiceNow Now Platform — leveraging Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) plus custom App Engine development — for enterprise marketing organizations. This is a founding technical design-authority role, not an implementation seat.
Why This Role Exists
ServiceNow has charged into the front office (CRM, customer service, CX) but has not built a first-party marketing work management product. The category is buildable on the platform — SPM already provides demand, project, portfolio, resource, and roadmap primitives — but turning that into a differentiated, marketer-ready product requires a senior architect who can blend SPM, App Engine, marketing-ops domain knowledge, and a customer-adoption strategy. This person is the keystone hire for the entire build thesis.
The Opportunity At The Wolf Tank
This is an exploratory, thesis-driven venture being incubated by The Wolf Tank. The aim is to test whether a ServiceNow-native marketing work management business can be built, scaled, and ultimately positioned as the category answer — and we are looking for the person who will lead that effort from the ground floor. This is a foundational leadership seat, not a staff architect role: you will shape the product, the architecture, and the go-to-market thesis, and help decide whether and how the business scales. As a build-from-zero opportunity, the role carries meaningful participation in the upside — equity and economic alignment commensurate with a founding leader — so the person designing the business shares directly in the value it creates. If you have wanted to stop implementing other people's platforms and instead build and own one, this is that seat.
Location & Compensation
Location: Remote (US-based), with occasional travel for working sessions.
Base salary: $210,000–$280,000, depending on experience and certification level (CTA vs. CMA) — plus potential for upside.
What You’ll Own
Solution architecture. The end-to-end design: what SPM delivers out of the box vs. what must be custom-built on App Engine; the data model on the Now Platform; scalability, security, and governance.
The marketing-work domain layer. Intake and request management, brief templates, approval and review workflows, campaign planning/calendars, resource and capacity management, brand/marketing compliance, and reporting — designed for marketers, not IT.
Integration architecture. Clean connections to the martech and creative stack (creative tools, DAM, marketing automation, the CRM/customer data already in ServiceNow) — integrate with creative/content tools rather than rebuild them.
Adoption & coexistence. A practical path for customers to adopt the solution alongside, and migrate from, their existing marketing work-management tools, including the integration patterns that make a phased transition possible.
Agentic layer. Design where AI agents execute the work loop (routing, brief generation, compliance checks, status reconciliation) on ServiceNow's data and governance.
Productization. Packaging for the ServiceNow Store, app scoping, entitlements, and upgrade-safe design.
Executive narrative. A TCO and capability case credible to both the CMO (won't lose capability, better speed) and the CIO (consolidation, governance, single data model).
Required Qualifications
ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect (CTA) — the senior design-authority credential.
CIS-SPM (Certified Implementation Specialist – Strategic Portfolio Management).
CAD (Certified Application Developer) — this is a custom App Engine build, not stock SPM configuration.
5+ years architecting on ServiceNow; deep data-modeling and scoped-application experience.
Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into platform architecture and to communicate to C-suite.
Strongly Preferred
Certified Master Architect (CMA) — for the strategic design-authority and business-case dimension. (Genuinely scarce; a CMA with marketing context is the ideal.)
Hands-on marketing work management / marketing-ops domain experience with enterprise work-management or marketing resource management (MRM) platforms.
ISV / ServiceNow Store app development experience (upgrade-safe, distributable apps).
Agentic AI / Now Assist design experience.
Prior platform migration experience (legacy work-management → new platform).
Profile / Title Equivalents

At the strategic tier: Master Architect / Principal Enterprise Architect.
